If you’ve ever dreamed of owning an Airstream to travel across the country in, then you’re in the right place here. But if you want a fully custom restored Airstream that was designed with the amenities of a new home, then you’ll be hard pressed to find one like this one.

This is Karen the Airstream. A fully custom, shell-off restored 34’ 1988 Airstream Limited. She was a dream of mine for years to own an Airstream and finally in 2020 I found her in Nashville, TN. She needed a lot of work. I immediately started the process of gutting her down to the frame and shell. Once that was completed, I removed the shell from the frame and had the frame and original rims sand blasted, repairs made with some new outriggers, repainted the frame and rims, replaced the axles with three new 3500# Dexter 32-degree torsion arm down angle with 12” brakes and “EZ Lube” spindles with Torflex 2 5/8” lift kits, a new Power Jack, and a new set of tires. Between the axles and the lift kits, she has approximately a 5” total lift from the stock configuration. Then I put the shell back on and ended up luckily finding Gavin at Silverliner Custom Trailer Designs in Birmingham, AL to take over the rest of the remodel. They started with installing Coosa composite decking for the subfloor and then the rest we designed and laid out from scratch. The only thing that remains from the original configuration is the frame, most of the exterior skins (none of the belly pan), the windows, and the original Airstream mirror which we repurposed in the bathroom. The rest is all new. The restoration was finished in September 2023 and we used her for a few trips over the past year and 2 months. In November 2024 we returned her to Gavin at Silverliner Custom Trailer Designs to have all the annual maintenance completed (exterior seals redone, winterized, exterior cleaning). We picked her back up in December 2024 and she is ready to go!

I weighed her at a CAT Scale at a local truck stop when she was nearly fully loaded and she came in at 9000lbs with a tongue weight of 800lbs. I did not weigh her fully unloaded as she sits right now but I’m expecting that weight would be around 8250lbs. With the 11500lbs of upgraded axles load capacity, you have plenty of wiggle room. My F-250 6.7L Diesel pulls her with no issues and with the three axles and 3 sets of brakes, she doesn’t seem like she’s behind you on the road.

We added approximately 18” of a frame extension on the back and added a rhino lined steel plate with hydraulic assist lifts to create additional storage space for all the electrical, plumbing, accessories, etc. as well as a solid place to strap down additional gear with stainless steel cleats.
